Frequently Asked Questions

  • Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise focused on building core strength, improving posture, increasing flexibility, and enhancing overall body awareness. It’s suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

  • Absolutely! Many of our members are brand new to Pilates. Our instructors guide you through each movement and help you modify exercises so you feel safe and supported.

  • Classes are 50 minutes. This gives you a full-body workout without taking too much time out of your day.

  • Yes, with modifications. Many pregnant clients benefit from Pilates to strengthen core and pelvic floor muscles. Please consult your doctor and inform your instructor before class and bring a doctor's note to confirm you are permitted to take class.

  • We recommend 4–6 times per week for the best results. This frequency helps you build strength, improve flexibility, and see lasting changes in posture and core stability. Since Pilates is low-impact, it’s safe to practice often—but consistency matters more than intensity. Even one class a week makes a difference!

  • Our minimum age requirement is 14 years old. Teens are welcome to join classes as long as they can follow instructions safely and respectfully. We recommend starting with beginner-friendly sessions to build a strong foundation. For clients under 18, a parent or guardian’s consent is required.

  • Not at all! We offer different formats and levels to help you reach your goals safely, whether it’s beginner-friendly, advanced, strength-focused, or our cardio-infused.

  • While both emphasize mind-body connection, Pilates is more focused on core strength, controlled movements, and alignment. Yoga often emphasizes flexibility and flow. Many people enjoy practicing both.

  • We recommend comfortable, form-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely (like leggings and a tank top). Avoid zippers or bulky items. Grip socks are required for safety and hygiene.

  • Traditional pilates is not a high-intensity calorie-burning workout like running or HIIT. However, House of Pilates also offers a Cardio Reformer class-a cardio-infused Pilates session that is low impact on the body while increasing the heart rate. It’s a fun way to blend strength, toning, and calorie burn into one workout!

  • Yes. Pilates is often recommended for rehabilitation because it strengthens stabilizing muscles, improves posture, and builds safe movement patterns. Always check with your doctor first and let your instructor know about any injuries.
